A post inline surge guard will not protect the RV if you have a short in the power cord between the post and the RV.
A friend had a near by lightening strike and his power cord faulted between the coach and the post. In any case the short caused a 240volt spike on the trailer. New washer-drier, all new AV system, etc. If the surge protector had been coach mounted, it would have saved the damage?
