The battery(S) are in the front compartment near the generator, under the nose. As far as fueling, sounds like either the vent hose or the fill hose is crimped shut. My buddy had one and I don't remember anything about a fuel "shut off: valve.
The fuel gauge is selective for the Gen tank or Fuel tank with a switch in the fueling center.

It does have a battery disconnect. It's in the front door on the left side, big red switch on the left side of the compartment.
