Thinking of a 53' semi-Fifth wheel by Spacecraft

Hi All we are on our 3rd fifth wheel, and love the living space it offers, however lacks the storage of a Class A bus.
We have been in discussion Spacecraft and they make (I think the best of both worlds). With a 53' trailer offering 10' of garage we would get all that we want. Issue is i can't seem to find anyone who has a similar setup.
Are campgrounds hard to find for such setups? What else should I consider?
Thanks,
Sly
  • I'm glad to see someone can afford them...I looked at them and figured after seeing their pricing I could almost buy 2 DRV full house toy haulers for what they wanted for one 44ft hauler!! I think their base hauler with no slides or options was more than a LX455 hauler from DRV so I just pitched their material and called and told the lady they were way far out of my price range! LOL!
  • Class A was the original thought, but after visiting many, you don't get the same space as in a fifth wheel. State laws could be tricky, we do want to start visiting most of the states and provinces. Maybe we should rethink our strategy of a class A witn an enclosed trailer.
Part of the reason I was going to a semi and semi trailer is ease of service. Semi trucks can be repaired in most towns/cities. And most semi mechanics are very good. many rv centers do not have very good reputations.
Maybe I am just over thinking all this?
  • Your biggest problem is state regs restrict rvs to certain lengths or combination lengths and a permit to pull through that state.
    My state for example 40' for a recreational trailer.....or a 65' combo.
Guess you could pull it with a short mobilehome toter.

Check out your legal requirements in those states/provinces you will be traveling through first
  • I workamp at a small, older RV park about an hour north of the Fla/Ga line, just off I-95. We have overnighters and winter seasonals. As an overnighter, with a reservation well in advance, we have a couple of sites that would accommodate a rig that length... 50 amp, pull through, without unhooking.

A fifty-three foot rig would about max out other 50 amp sites, length-wise - you'd have to unhook and most likely need a double-length sewer hose.

If you fit in a seasonal site, you wouldn't be able to park your truck on your site.

I'd be adding an auxiliary fuel tank in the bed of the truck. Maneuvering a camper that length in and out of a standard gas station would be a struggle and make you few friends. Even at a Pilot / Love's / Flying Hook, you'd be better off using the truck pumps.

I have to assume that reducing your cargo is not an option.
  • The problem here is not just the 53ft trailer, but the additional 30ft truck to pull it. Good luck pulling into a KOA with it.
