Have you ever had to use a extension to your OEM cord to hook up to power. My old 5th wheel (30 amp) on a few occasions to reach power had to use a extension. Not sure how long the OEM was but just guessing around 25'.My new one has a 35' OEM so thinking I shouldn't need one.

We also have the 35 foot 50 amp OEM and we have a 25 foot extension cord. We also carry a 25 foot 30 amp extension cord and various dogbones. Like many others said, we have not needed to use the 25 foot 50 amp extension cord very many times. But when you need, you need it. We do use the 30 amp extension cord to plug in at home because our shed only has a 30 amp hookup.
We had our 50 amp extension cord made by our local RV tech. It is much lighter than the OEM cord and was much cheaper than purchasing a ready made extension cord.
One thing that has not been mentioned is that you get more power degradation with a longer length of 30 amp cord than you will with a 50 amp cord. If you must use a 30 amp cord, coil the excess cord length if possible.

I used my extension a few times in the state park where we go atvโ€™ing. Our favorite corner site has the pin the the corner, so we have to use the power extension and two water hoses to park where I like to.

Thanks everyone. I was on the fence about one but with the replies I'll make me a 30ft.I have access to all the cord I need 6/4 600v SOOW.

That's the way. Made my own too. Cut a bad RV end fitting off & put a female fitting on. Why throw good cable away?

For 16 years of fulltiming never needed an 50 amp extension. That is until a month ago. Usually I'll just use our 30 amp extension but it was 100 plus degrees and sure needed the second AC. The new cord was needed because of the location of ped and I could only go back so far due to curbing, etc.

Always nice to be prepared. I made a 50 amp extension. Also have a 30 amp extension. Have had situations where both were needed. Over 100' of shore power line.

I picked up a used Camco 25' cord on CL here locally. I =have= to use it to plug into the 30a plug I had installed at my house years ago. I use a 50/30 dogbone and have a 30/20 adapter...just in case. ๐Ÿ™‚

Wouldn't be without an extra 25'

You will not need it often, but when you do, it is too late to run to 7-11 and pick one up.

I also have an old, beat up 30A by 30 foot that lives in the bottom of the tool box on the truck with various dog bones.

W/O looking, we have a 30A ext cord for sure (don't know about a 50Amper tho) and exactly like dutch said is how we use the 30A cord. Had the 30A w/ old RV and kept it when we sold it. Did use an ext cord last summer.

We have both 50 amp and 30 amp extensions. We use them a fair bit - especially in places like county fairgrounds and (when we can't avoid them), mobile home parks that have been converted to "RV parks." Most recently, we had to use the 50 amp extension at an Air Force base FamCamp. Military campgrounds are usually laid out better than that!

My connection is rear, street side and have a 35โ€™ cable.. i always carry a 15โ€™ @50amp extension and used it I think twice. Its like insurance, donโ€™t need it till you need it.

I have a 35' cord and a 15' extension. To date, I've never used the extension. But its one of those things that when you need it, YOU NEED IT. But more than likely, the best use it serves is to give you a little more flexibility as to your setup on some sites. For example, one of the places we visited this summer required us to stretch our our entire main cord to reach the pedestal because of where we wanted to setup. And our plug is on the back corner of our rig. If the plug was another 2-3 feet forward, we would have had to use the extension. But if the extension was available, we would have had to park further back and the setup would have been far less ideal.

I think it depends on the length of your rig and the placement of your power cord inlet on the camper.

On my old 42' rig, the power inlet was at the rear corner. I only ever had 2 or 3 occasions in 5 years (1000+ nights and probably 150+ campgrounds) where I needed an extension cord or could have used one.

On my new 44' rig, the power inlet is mid-ship. I have had the camper for almost 18 months now and have needed an extension cord probably a dozen times.

I actually really like Old-Biscuit's idea of putting in a second power inlet onto the camper. If I recreate that rear corner inlet, it should alleviate the need for ever needing an extension cord.

In all the places we have stayed I only needed a 50 amp extension cord one time. And I did not have one. I was going to have to pull the 5er up to the very end of the site for my cord to reach. Fortunately a park employee saw my problem and loaned me his 50 amp extension cord. Upon arriving home I ordered one right away. And lucky me, just happened CW had a special sale going on for them at the time saving me $50+.
