time for new tires?

If it were me, yeah, I'd pop for the new tires. Just on age alone you're pushing it, and you don't know how they've been treated, how many curbs they've banged, how long they've set without moving or been run under inflated, etc. Bite the bullet and start off fresh, for your own piece of mind.

6 years of sitting almost full time (only 1000 miles) is good reason to replace the tires now. Don't wait until you have one fail on the road.

You don't mention how big the unit is or what size the tires are, but if it is a big heavy 5th wheel, I would not buy a Carlisle tires in a 16" size. JMO of course.

But getting new tires is a very good idea after sitting that long.

Yes you should change your tires but Carlisle tires are made in China, I'm be looking for another brand.

It's 9200 dry and tires are 235 80 16

I read a bunch of posts on China bombs. I'm going on the word of the tire shop manager. He says they are good tires. I've dealt with them for a while.

Thanks all for comments. I was pretty certain but I think I needed nudge.

I have the Carlisles and they're going into their 3rd year. So far, so good. Given that they have a 75 mph speed rating, and most of us don't drive that fast, I think they're a different beast than they were 3-4 years ago. Not saying that you shouldn't look elsewhere, but don't discount the Carlisles out of hand, either.

I prefer not to take chances with trailer tires so I use only - Michelin XPS Ribs LT235/85R16/E. Chinese tires have even been known to pop when mounted as spares with zero time on the road. Terrible quality.

Replace the tires, in a 16" size there are better options than Carlisle

After 20 years of towing 5th wheels and not being one to cheap out on tires (tread separation failures are too expensive and time consuming to repair), my preferences are the following all steel construction radials:

6000 lb axles - Michelin XPS Rib rated 3042 lbs @ 80 PSIG in size LT235/85R16E

7000 lb axles - Goodyear G614 RST rated 3750 lbs @ 110 PSIG in size LT235/85R16G

8000 lb axles - Michelin XTA or Goodyear G114 rated 4805 lbs @ 120 PSIG in size 215/75R17.5

I've used all of the tires listed above without any problems or failures.

Don't do like me. I had mine changed out and got all the way home and realized that I did not tell the shop to throw the the offs in the truck.

They would have probably went in one day on Craigslist for a hundred bucks to be put on a hay wagon or some other piece of equipment. :S
