When Michelin recalled the Uniroyal HD-H and BFG Commercials last years they offered the LTX MS2 as replacement tires for customers with them on their trailers.
Those folks that have them on their trailers seem to like them. Make sure the LT E have enough capacity for your trailers axle capacities.
Good info. I had forgotten about that...
Michelin, was using everything in their stable to cover the problem with the Commercial TA!!!! They even bought Bridgestone Duravis R250's for some users here!!! I had a friend loose a TA that was outside the recall SN range this spring with a lot of trailer damage(which BFG/Michelin paid for similar to GY). Simple fact is that poly carcass LT tires on trailers do fail!! One does not have to look far to find the issues with the TA's twin the Uniroyal Laredo HD/H!
If you want to have the greatest chance of not having tire issues, then the Michelin XPS Rib and Bridgestone Duravis R250 or M895 are the best bets hands down.
NO ONE has ever posted a problem with one of these despite how hard some have looked!!!! One would be hard pressed to ever wear them out. 6-8 years of service is not a problem. I sold 4 Ribs after 6.5 years and 40k+ miles for 200 bucks. What is it that people to do not understand about this investment in quality tires???? Name another tire that will last that long and still have street value??? Instead of paying a disposal fee, you get money back!!!
Again, will a LTX M&S2 work on a trailer? Yes! Is it the best choice for the money? No! Is it the best choice for the trailers running gear? NO! To much grip to pavement in tight maneuvers because of open outer rib and siping. The R250 is in the same price range and has a better tread pattern and steel ply carcass. If one somehow thinks they need a little more aggressive thread, then look at the Duravis M895.
This has all been covered many times!
