RV.net alone has had over twenty members reporting Maxxis ST 8008 failures that I've seen so there certainly not up on reliability par with a LT tire on our trailers by any stretch of an imagination.

The OP says the OEM were a ST225/75-D15 which the D in this location indicates a old tech bias ply tire. I would assume it was a load range D tire at 2540 lb capacity as he is wanting a load E tire.

I bet sandra has run away by now shaking her head with all this talk about spending a lot of money changing wheels and tires to 16". All she wanted to know is if going up from a "D" rated tire to an "E" rated one was a good idea which I believe is good. And whether to look at Maxxis or Carlysle. I agree with donn, go for the Maxxis. The KISS principle works! ;)

By the way, found them on Amazon for $162 each, free freight. Normally I found them around $200-$240.

I just put the Maxxi's on mine, 16". Quite happy with them, so far.
I did a lot of web surfing and reading blogs and they seem to be the highest rated/best reviewed of the ST tires in 16" LRE.

Bridgestone Duravis R250's seem to fit the bill for many.. myself included. Very tough tires!

Michelin XPS and the Bridgestone Duravis R250's are LT/E 16" tires--and the same quality tires. The Goodyear G614's are great, but very pricey.

I went with the Bridgestone's @ $197 each at Costco--cheaper than Michelin.

If you can afford it, and the tire spacing will allow, switch to 16" tires and buy a good LT. If it's not in the budget, the Maxxis is your best bet in a 15" ST. IMO, the Carlisle RH is the 2nd choice. I =do= have the Carlisles simply because I couldn't get the Maxxis in time for a trip. So far (knock on wood), they're serving me well.

I would go for a name brand tire like Goodyear or Michelin. Think about what you have riding on those tires.

Agree..go with the 16 inch.
Couple yrs ago I switched to 16......Best move in a long time.
