to disk or not to disk

I go through quite a few. The combination of the approach angle Reese wants for the 26K hitch, and the angle on the Triglide pinbox, make it tough to keep that disk in one piece. It squeezes it together in the front and shoves it down into the hitch opening and snaps the tabs. The next time I disconnect it just falls off.

I've had to learn to manipulate the pin box down onto the hitch, but its beginning to be a pain in the keester, so I may go to grease.

Done, picked one up today! No brainer, Camping World sent me a $10 coupon and they were on sale for $9.98!!!!! DONE, Thanks for the info. Jeff

I've used the Teflon disc for more than fifteen years. Mine is permanently fastened to my fifth wheel plate. I've used it not only for personal RVing but for many years as a professional RV transporter running Coast to Coast. Starting to show a bit of wear after all these years but will loast me until I am through RVing.

Use it. End of story.

I didn't want no plastic hot dog plate between my 15k Classic hitch and 5th wheel. Then years later decided to try one. I've had one since for about eight years. I still put a drop of Mobil-1 5w-30 on each pivot point in and on the hitch. A little around the jaws and king pin too. I don't miss the grease.

Definitely use the lube plate. It will save a lot of wear or else save a greasy mess.

No, the disk is so you don't have to do that. Ok, I don't do that.

The disc doesn't eliminate the need to lube the pin & jaws unless you aren't worried about wear on those parts. I keep my pin & jaws lubed.

The teflon disc is used so you don't have to lube the striker plate (AKA saddle). It keeps dirt and grit from accumulating on the plate, which will happen if you just used grease. You should still use a light amount of lube on the pin and jaws. Very light, so it doesn't attract much dirt. I just used the two-rag system on the pin and jaws. Wipe them clean with a non-oily rag, then use an oily rag and wipe the pin, and the jaws where the pin strikes them on both sides.
