We are carefully planning our investments for a fifth wheel and tow vehicle. We have had some experience with Ram 3500 dually, diesel and have read good reports on their performance. We see a lot of GM products and Fords towing the larger fivers, which is what we are considering. We are also paying attention to rear end ratios and have been told that 4.73 is about the right ones for towing. So, the question is what advice, pro and con, will be helpful? The seasoned RVers (you guys) can offer the best firsthand input. Thanks for your reports.
Well first you need to identify what you mean by larger fiver. To some a 28 Ft unit is large and to others a 40 Ft unit is large. Then there is weight. My point is you need to kind figure out the fiver your interested in. That being said Ram Ford or GM will most likely handle the job.

Get a one ton dually of your favorite brand. The differences between them for average drivers is minor IMO. Others may be able to advise you on rear end ratings. I have heard people say that it doesn't matter that much on modern units because or the six speed or more transmissions. I think you mean 3.73 tho not 4.73. This article might help you:
