TPMS

The tires on my 5th wheel state 80 psi max. I run 76 to 78. What should I set upper psi setting and lower psi setting on my tire pressure monitor system ?
  • I don't have a TPMS but the IR temp gun I have shows an easy 40+ degree temp increase, with about 20 degrees difference between sunny and shaded sides, when towing here in AZ in the summer. One reason that I've always kept my tires within 5 lbs of max cold psi, even when I went up a load rating.

  • My tire runs at 50 degrees above ambient while driving the Interstates. If I start out at 105psi they get up to 120psi while driving. Setting the upper limit is not as important as the lower limit IMHO. My TPMS sets those limits automatically and I believe the upper limit is 140 psi and the lower limit is 90-95 psi. It monitors temperature as well and that is set to 170 degrees.
  • If I remember correctly, TST recommended the low pressure set 10% below and 20% above the starting cold pressure. My rear axle 80 psi starting, Low setting 72 psi and high at 96psi. I eventually changed the 96 to 105 after a long interstate drive, 100+ outside temps and sunny. The TPMS was reading a consistant 100.

  • Ditto, I run my tires, which are rated at 110 psi, at 100 psi and they will routinely get over 115 psi when it's hot outside. My TST is set at 125 psi.

10 psi over didn’t work for mine they go over 10 psi when warmed up , had to go a little more to keep the alarm quiet .

  • Mine is a TST and I just followed the guidelines they offered in the set-up manual.
