I don't know about the internal ones but on the external sensors, the 510 system has a sealed battery if you don't want to mess with changing batteries. You send it in at the end of battery life for a new one.
The batteries on the 507 sensors aren't that hard to change once you get the hang of it.
And do they effect tire balance. Not so much a deal for internal - they would be installed at tire shop. But, external.
No they do not affect tire balance.

Do the monitors have some type of audible alarm? I can't look constantly at it!
Our TST system has an audible alarm and a blinking red light in addition to that tire position flashing

Do the external sensors flex the valve stems?
If you have rubber valve stems that are older and might be a bit brittle then yes. If they are rubber and new and flexible no but we switched to the metal valve stems years ago because it was recommended by TST that if you carry more than 80 pounds of air in your tires or if your tires are older than 3 years you should go to metal stems
They do have 3 systems: the 510, the 507 & the 507 with flow through sensors. Hope this helps. Hugs, Di
