Do these things really work? Or are they like radar detectors, just lets you know your getting a ticket.

I had the same problem finding valve stems, ended up using the TPMS stems that were for my truck(GM) wheels...

The 507 has replaceable batteries and is the newer system. You can order the system with 4, 6, 8 etc. monitors.

The Flow throughs are indeed a bit restrictive when adding air. I generally just remove them like a valve stem and add air if it's more than a few pounds.

I still like them better than the non flow throughs, as you don't need a tool to remove them.

As far as steel valve stem to fit, use these:
Metal Valve Stems

The bend in the valve allows the sensors to be oriented such that they don't protrude past the edge of the tire.

I went with the 507 since it came with 4 sensors. I needed 6 total so it saved money for me to start out with 4 because the sensors are $100 each. I also got the flow through sensors which I would give a pass to because they are so restrictive, takes forever to add anything over a couple psi.

If you have a long traler, 38' or so, you might also want to get the repeater. Assuming you're buying for your trailer and not just the truck.

I've had two successful alerts and two after the BOOM on my previous trailer.

The TST system does have an rapid air loss alarm.

That's not what I meant. In the scenario of an instantaneous sidewall rupture, for instance, the failure has already occurred, so the TST gave no advanced warning. I threw a tread on the OEM General tire on my previous truck. The carcass was still holding air, so the TST was dead silent through the whole failure.

A TPMS has its place - that's why I have one - but it also has its limitations.

Even so it can take up to 5 seconds for the alarm. When I was removing my TST sensors for winter it took a couple about 5 seconds for the alarm. In case of a wheel loss or valve stem failure at 55 mph you will be way past sensor range in 2 seconds.

um, yes it does, I had a bubble in the outside skin that blew dropped my pressure from 88 to 62 instantly and set the alarm off.

You definitely need metal stems, and not just the stems with metal stem and snap in rubber seat. I had those on my truck, and thought they would be good enough. The rubber seat broke. I went with the threaded rubber seat all metal stems. You can get many different lengths, so they don't have to stick out too far.

I have a long bed, crew cab truck, and a 36' trailer, and I've never had an issue needing a repeater. I can take my receiver in the house, while waiting for all the sensors to check in, and still get a signal from all. Mine is the TST, they are made for semis, so I don't understand people having a need for repeaters on RVs. I don't.

Seems I can't find a metal stem to fit my wheels. I would be open to suggestions. The nut on the outside won't fit down into the recessed valve hole on the wheel.

I also don't need/use a repeater.
