trailer fire

Last night while the wife and I were watching DWTS we heard someone yell "Fire". Sure enough- 4 doors down the 5th wheel had flames going 15 feet into the air. The neighbors rallied and got it out- it was the fridge (Dometic). No one was injured but what a mess. I think the campground folks put the owners up for the night in a cabin. Thankfully everyone including the dog is ok- but check your recall notices on your fridge!
  • It would be interesting to know if it was on electric or gas. Dometic recommended to not run it until shields were installed, but if you had to, then be sure to NOT run it on gas because of the open flame!!!

Just for my information. How is the Norcold recall to customers handled. Do they (Owners) have to check the Norcold web site for a new recall or a E-Mail notifacation from Norcold? Just trying to understand for future reference.
    Thank you for your reply,
    Scott

Best way is to check Norcold's website. Like Dometic, they have a recall page with an abundance of info. Better to rely on yourself to determine if you have a suspect refrigerator.

When we bought a new TT last year, I specifically asked the dealer if any and all recall issues had been addressed on the installed refrigerator (Norcold). The service manager produced a worksheet of inventory with Vin #'s in need of recall "fix". The work on the trailer we purchased was done as part of delivery prep.

    Thank you for the reply.
I'll be sure to check the Norcold Website.

  • very fortunate no one was injured. Thanks for posting and sharing that note on recalls.
  • How sad for the families involved. How wonderful nobody was hurt.

Also thanks for the info. You may have saved someone else from this happening.
