WARNING, check pin box

Good morning to all from Denny and Ida, Just wanted everyone who has or just purchased a 2015 296frs outback from keystone to check the electrical junction box on the back of the pin box. I was inspecting the 5th wheel after our last trip and found that the electrical junction box that the cable for power from the tow vehicle goes into did not have any type of wire guide or protector for the wires going into the box. The electrical box had a sharp edge where the wires went into the box and could have cut into the wires and shorted them out. I took some plastic tubeing and put it around the hole where the wires go in and keep them from being cut. Have a good day and we will see you on the road, Denny and Idajavascript:;
  • Auto parts stores sell those rubber gromets for passing cable through a bulkhead. Just measure the hole, you can then cut one side to slip it over your wire and then into the hole the wires pass through.

    Run a bead of silicone around it for good measure and you are good to go.
  • you are right, this is only a temporary fix and I will show it to the dealer

    To the OP, that fix while protecting the cable from cutting is not the correct fix. You need to either go back to the dealer and have them fix it correctly, OR go to HD and get the correct sized electrical cable clamp and lock into the hole in the box, and clamp the cable to prevent it from being pulled out of the box.

    The fix requires totally disconnecting the cable from the 5th wheel so it might be best to take back to the dealer.
