Wash and wax
How do you wash and wax these big beasts? I have always washed and waxed our campers at least once a year. We have never had anything near this size before. 36 ft long and 12 ft high.

- I use Mequires Yellow 26 liquid wax. One side 1 day . 2nd side 2nd day. back and front and rear sides of slides 3rd day . Compound and wax front cap the last day. When I am working on the sides I open the slideouts a couple of inches and it acts as a handle all the way across the top of the slide.
- Entire thing gets waxed once a year. Meguires Flagship. Takes a couple of days but the DW gets busy & helps, the good boat woman that she is. We do ours in a boatyard. Spend 4-5days there each year for our annual refit. Set up the A frame staging & long boards around it & get busy. Front cap usually gets a mid season rewax & an end of season wax before going into storage. Carrying levelling boards long enough to rest across truck bedrails is a big help.
- Was at the Keys last winter and the 45' toy-hauler had a company come in and detail the toy-hauler. Wash, Wax, tires, everything external. 6 men working on it. It could not have looked that good from the factory. After the crew left I ask the owner how much a detail like that cost him. He said without whimpering a bit $2,200.
If you like i can see if i can get the detail shops number. - I have a cost effective and labor free solution to rubbing and waxing: I just convince myself the oxidation is really patina and adds to the character of the trailer. Self delusion is sometimes very practical.
I do wash it before every trip with a bucket and pole brush, takes about 45 minutes. - For Washing my 41' Fifth Wheel-
I will use a foam cannon and a clean 9" pure lambswool pad I then use a California Original Water Blade to remove the excess water if I am not waxing soon.
For waxing -
I will set up portable scaffolding and do 1 side in the AM.. and the other side that PM , working against the sun.. I will then do the front cap on one evening, and the rear cap on 1 morning, again working against the sun.
If I am feeling ambitious, I will try for 1/2 to 3/4 of the wax job in one day, but those days are behind me now..

Last year I waited until I got to Florida and had Paul Newman and his guys at Dazzling Detailing do a complete wash and wax.. - We have a favorite mobile detailing service wash and wax (by hand) the rig whenever we're in Las Cruces, NM (my hometown where we visit my mom and sisters). The prices are excellent and they know what they're doing. In between those times, I will wash the rig myself with carwash detergent, a spray nozzle, and a soft brush on an extending pole. I recently added a large squeegee to my arsenal to dry the sides and large windows so they don't water spot. No need for scaffolding, here - I back the truck up to the front of the trailer, drop the tailgate, and stand in the bed to do the front cap.
