Water. Tank over flow

Is it normal for my water tank to flow out of the over flow when I hitch up and take off? I am losing a good quart or two of water. My gauge shows 1/3 full. It doesn't leak until I raise the front end.
  • The end of your overflow hose needs to be above the high water mark of your tank.
  • Sometimes the position where the overflow hose is attached causes the water to siphon off, particularly as you are driving. You might check the overflow hose position and raise it a bit if necessary.
  • I had to put a valve on the end of our overflow hose, close it while driving and while RV not in use. We would loose gallons of water while driving. Just remember to open the valve while filling or running the pump.
  • It's normal to loose some water (about 1/2 gal) through the overflow from your water tank when it's completely full. The overflow opening allows air into the water tank so the tank doesn't collapse when the water pump draws water from the tank. If it really bothers you, then don't overfill the tank.
  • Off the top of my head I would say your gauge is not working. Are you sure your tank is not full?
