I see post throughout the year where folks are having incidents happening in their drive ways! You bought the RV to go camping! Why are they getting damaged in the drive way of the homes? It would seem that the bulk of incidents would be at the camp grounds! I wont reference any but you see them often enough through out the year! I would suggest to go camping most of the year to avoid the accidents in the driveways of America! Don't take any of this post personally, Im just stirring the pot on a Saturday night on the first of Febuary to see what it makes ! Im bored and want to go camping!

Move south, we did, and camp all year. Boredom goes away, issue solved.:B

Im bored and want to go camping!There are some of us that still work for a living, thus the reason we can't camp all the time, and I didn't take your post personally, just replying.....I cannot answer the question as to why some have "accident's" in or near their driveway's, I have a long, sort of steep drive way to back into, (since 97' ) and even with 5er I have now at 39' 9" and loaded to 16,300#, I have to turn it in a cul-de-sac and then back it into my driveway....with trees on passengers side...never had an issue....I actually see or hear of more incidents with people going into filling stations and hitting something, or backing into camping sites where there are quite a few trees and doing damage to their roof or upper side of their RV....maybe it's just inexperience for some who haven't been towing 5er's long and haven't gotten the gist of it yet..

Because the first place most folks try to back a new rig in and park - is their driveway, or a storage lot.Very few folks pick a new rig from a dealer, or private seller if it is a used rig, and drive straight to a campground.With a new rig, all the clues about how to backup, when to turn, etc - that have worked well for years - are wrong. Almost always the new rig is a different length, or if the same length the axle placement different enough to make it turn a little differently.

For me... it is also a work thing... I only have so much vacation time , and that never seems like enough . . SOOOOOOOOO.... the 5'r is in the driveway more than a campground

Familiarity breeds complacency. But that is if your premise is accurate that most dings happen in the driveway. I am not so sure that is accurate.

as a commercial driver i have no problems putting a trailer (25 footer up to 58 footers)anyplace.
i do not trust "spotters"
but i do know people that have major problems just parking a trailer in front of there homes. (on the street).

it is a acquired talent. some will never get it. repair shops love them.

but during a back up at angles if you get all mixed up ...just pull out of it and restart the whole deal.

good drivers can fix most backing problems.
pro drivers can fix all backing problems.
sneaky drivers never let you see the problems.

i fall into the third group ;-)

Well, I don't know how it works for you, but for me, each camping trip comes with TWO driveway trips, one out, one in. Doubles your chances :)

I doubt the drive way accidents happen on the first parking job. My first time I backed around a 100 foot pine tree and down the narrow curved drive way. I now store it 20 miles away because I know sooner or later the tree and the trailer shall meet. Every CC I have been in has much more room to maneuver than a typical driveway. And having grown up in Iowa I understand the boredom of winter but it isn't unique to Iowa. We are having 70 degree weather and sitting at home with the trailer in storage. Shame on us!

Having recently moving to a 5er after growing up and then raising my own family in a TT, the built in geometry computer,brain, for was just off a little. When and how much to break the turn or straighten out was there but just off. I've gotten better but I'm not to proud to put in park and walk back and see and talk to the copilot so we are on same page

well to start off 1. people have to park the trailer at home and maybe it is their first time trying to get that new trailer or fifth wheel into the spot where it is going to be stored or it could be the spotter was not watching really close and i thought that February 1st was on a Sunday not a Saturday

I see a lot of examples in campgrounds of people who have not got a clue as to how to back in a 5er or TT. With this same level of 'skill' I would expect driveways would be a challenge possibly with more immovable objects to hit.
