Where can I rent a truck to pick up our 5th wheel trailer?

We are purchasing a used/new to us 5th wheel but my 3/4 ton truck is not going to be enough truck to pull the trailer. The trailer is 40' and weighs approx. 14,000 pounds. Previous owner pulled the trailer with a F350.

I was wanting to rent a truck to go pick the trailer up and bring to our home where we will park it till I can do some repair work on it. We are in northern Illinois and the trailer is currently in South Carolina.

Any suggestions where I could rent a truck?

One of my RV dealers has a list of operators that will transport their customers trailers anywhere in the USA. Your dealer or a local dealer may also. Give them a call.

I second finding someone who delivers 5ers for a living. With you living in northern Il. it is basically a paid return trip for someone making a delivery to SC. It should be a good deal for both of you.

Renting a truck to tow new 5th. wheel--
Suggest you contact your nearest trailer mfg. or the mfg that made the 5th wheel you are buying and ask them for the name and # of a driver who delivers new 5th. wheels perfessional for them. Contact rblachard@classic-tranporation.com 0r 866-724-1606

Does your current truck have a hitch in it? What is the GVW of the trailer? How overloaded will you be? While I don't advocate using the wrong truck for a one time trip I would consider it.
On the other hand what are your plans for the 5'er in the long run.
Do you have plans to upgrade your current truck to accommodate the new 5'er?

Finding a rental truck with a 5th wheel hitch may be a challenge.

Think your gonna have better luck finding someone to go pick it up for you. I'd want to check it out good even the tires before making that trip.
