Which 5th wheel hitches will work with the bed rails I have?

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a truck to pull the 5th wheel trailer we have and the truck came with bed rails already installed. I am going to start looking for a used hitch that will work with the rails.

Are the hitches and rails interchangeable between brands? Are there certain brand hitches I need to be looking for? I was told by the PO of the truck that the rails are pretty common to many hitches.

I'm not sure how/what to describe the bed rails as....they are installed parallel with the truck bumper. Our trailer is 15,500 GVWR, so I assume I shoud look for a 16,000 pound or greater hitch.

Thanks for the help,
Phil
  • A picture of the rails and so measurements would help. I know my Hijacker rails are not the same spacing of Reese and some of the others. Did you ask PO about what brand hitch he has?

  • Sorry...should have mentioned it, my truck is a long bed.

So, kinda sounds like I am not locked into one certain manufacturer?....that helps.
  • I have a 21K manual slide HiJacker double pivot fifth wheel hitch for sale.
  • I have the B&W Patriot 16k, rail based hitch and love it. They have an 18k version now too

my trailer is also rated at 15,600 gross.. but I would have to fill all the tanks to get up to that.. empty its about 12,200
  • I know your not looking for a new hitch, but in case you change your mind, Pullrite has a new line of hitches (model 1900) that they say will fit all bedrails.

In any event I would look to at least a 18K hitch. At 15,500 you could Easley go well over 16K.

If your truck is a short box look at a Industry Standard Rail (ISR) 18K Pulllrite SuperGlide automatic slider.

My 16K has performed flawlessly for 12 years now.

I used one also when I had a short bed. Worked perfectly. Most bedrails use standard spacing that will accept any hitch. The Super Glide was a good choice other than it is heavy. Bought mine online. Got a much better price than if i bought it locally. The newer 16K has been re-rated up to 18K (same hitch) although 16K would be plenty for you in my opinion.
