Which B&W Hitch?

I am buying and installing a B&W Hitch next week at the B&W Factory in Kansas. I am wanting a clean bed with no rails.

I was wanting advice from you guys on which hitch to go with? I have a new 2018 Ford F350 short bed and a new 2018 3721RL Montana. I am selling my Pullrite Superglide after having a lot of problems with it and the distaste for having to be almost dead on straight when hooking up. I am a horrible back up driver. My brother in law has the B&W Companion Slider and I love it! I have gotten several opinions that I may not neccessarily need the slider. Can one of you B&W experts help me with this? I also have heard with the new Montanas you would probably never need the slider. I’m a newbie at this so would really appreciate your advice! Thanks!!

Companion Slider or Non Slider?
  • I pull our 2018 Montana 3791RD with a 2012 F350 with short bed without a slider and have no problems. I think the factory will tell you that you need one to avoid any liability issues should you make contact between the truck and fiver AND the fact that they should make more $ because the sliders sell for more. Do what you are comfortable with.
  • I have a short bed RAM and needed the slider to back into my driveway on a residential street. Buy from E-trailer to get free shipping, no taxes, and the slider for me was a little over 200 bucks more.

Since you are going to the B&W Factory I highly advise taking your RV with. THEY will point you in the right direction to what hitch is appropriate for YOUR application.

    Great Choice!!!

I agree with taking your fifthwheel along to the factory. The only way to know is with a tape measure, your truck and trailer. Why not let the pros help with that since you will be there.

X2 on a great hitch no matter which one you end up with.
  • Great advice folks! Thank you so much! I’m leaning towards saving the $500 bucks and 70 extra pounds and going with the non slider...
  • I have a 3500 with the 6.5 ft bed and I get along fine without a slider. I have the B & W Companion and have been very happy. The newer montanas would have the sculpted nose which should allow you to get by without a slider if you're watchful. Just be careful, take your time, and get some extras eyes on you as you back up.
  • I can't help much other than to say I have been very satisfied with my 11 year old B&W Companion hitch. Easy to hitch and unhitch. Easy to remove the hitch and free up the bed for drywall and plywood.

I tend to vote no slide. My old, very square front Komfort, would not hit the cab of the truck in my sig, GOING FORWARD, at full lock both ways. I have the standard old-style Companion on a TO Ball base. I'd vote the standard Companion. I hope you got the OEM FW prep; if not, then you can get the TO Ball installed and have the option to tow a GN trailer, too. FWIW, I =always= have my GN ball with me, even when camping, and carry the right tools to remove my Companion, if needed.

  • No, IMO you don't need the slider. Do you have the Ford OEM puck system? The standard B&W hitches are adjustable ahead back, as well as up/down.
