which hitch revised

More info as requested. I have a RAM long bed 3500 DRW 2014 model and I plan to pull a Montana fiver about 17K gross wt.
I wanted the new B&W OEM for RAM but Paula says it is on hold due to tolerance issues with the measurements RAM provided and the first trucks it was tried in. May have to go with the Reese picture frame rail and either a Reese, Curt, or Pullrite ISR hitch.I am not familiar with rail hitches. Does the rail to hitch interface rattle and which is the best hitch and why.
Looked at Curt Q20 yesterday and it looked strong but the head has very little side to side movement capability and no front to back rocking capability. Reesee 30081 hitch legs looked weak to me and have not seen the Pullrite or other options. If anyone is using these rails and a hitch I would be interested in your setup and experience. Also recommendations from all of you.

I just installed a Reese 20k Titan hitch (30867) and the Reese factory Ram 3500 rails mounting adaptor (30154) on a 2013 Ram 3500 long bed crew cab with prep package. It was easy to install with two people to lower rails in and place hitch. I tow a 2013 Montana 3750FL with a weight of about 13500 loaded. There are no issues with this combo that I have experienced and I'm very happy with it. I had a Pullrite Superglide on a 2006 Mega Cab before this and had no issues with that set up either.

Do you know your pin weight. There is a guy on another thread worried about pin weight. I however question your 1350 loaded number as the trailer has a 12597 shipping weight. With a GVWR of 15770 you are running really light at 13500! Have you actually weighed it.

  • Just installed Andersen setup in my Ram 3500. Extremely happy with it!
  • We had a Curt 24k hitch in our 2010 F450 pulling a 2009 20k 5er. DH loved it for the ease of checking if it was locked and the ride wasn't bad either.

When we upgraded the F450 to one off the lot, we found they couldn't use the Curt with the Ford rail less option. The adaptor available locally was only rated for 20k and our new 5er tops out at 21k.

So the dealer had to give us the Ford (Reese) hitch instead. Haven't towed with it, but the Curt was only 6 mos old and we had bought it to replace another Reese 22k hitch.
  • How many threads do you need on the same subject. Go back the first one and ping Cummins12v98. Chris
  • Sorry, went and looked at the Ram prep kit...:S

Have you already got that box thing they use?
