Who's got the dealer to actually change the Tires.

I've started the slow search of possibly a new fifth wheel and have been told more than once to make sure the dealer takes the Chinese tires off and replace them with "G" load tires. That what I have on my fifth wheel now and agree all these "E" rated tires should not be on these heavier fifth wheels.

So, of course the dealer will change out the tires if you are willing to pay them to do it but who's getting the dealer to change them to save the deal without raising the cost of the unit.

Maybe they won't lose a sale. But they won't offer you QUALITY TIRES for a decent price. And to offer quality tires at an acceptable price, they will lose a deal. The dealer will never lose money.

You may know people who have made it work. Ever happen for you? Happened for my brothers, neighbors, cousins, aunts, son. Must be true, then.

I can't PROVE anything to you on here. I was the one that personally suggested what to do to people I know to try to get better tires and they did.

Like I said they will put those new tires on a different RV and have a great selling feature.

RRRRRRRRight, so you want to change a manufactures design specify a change, add cost through a third party and have the original manufacture warranty the change. The effects to the system will also have to be warranted. This group is full of dreamers.

If you are negotiating with the Dealer, its too late. You will end up buying both sets, even if you go home with one set, whether you think you did or not. The factory is the only place you will come out paying only the difference.

In addition, if its a factory option, your GVWR and cargo capacity rating in the sticker will be adjusted accordingly, and your tire sticker will be correct for the tire you have.

If it just isnt available with that option, I would buy after delivery and just sell the original ones locally.

I was just curious, over the years I've seen several post where it's been said they made the dealer change the tires. Each deal is different and of course no business wants to lose on any part of the deal. I would imagine some deals would allow for a tire swap to save the deal, just depends on how much he's making on you. I agree if your not careful you will get your tire swap included in the deal and pay dearly when you thought they were throwing them in the deal.

My case is a little different, I own an aftermarket shop that sells tires. I will get the tires and install them, just want an allowance back when I return them to the dealer. If I buy many hours away I will have my G rated Goodyears in the back of my truck and they can put them on.

I don't think most dealers want to lose a sale over 2,4 or even 6 tires.

Maybe not.

As far as the cost ("pay dearly" for the upgrade) - only one way to find out.

You give it a try - run the figures, then go accordingly.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained!..:S..:S

This I agree with. Give it a shot. Nothing to lose. Just be ready to walk or renegotiate without the tire/wheel exchange. And don't let them talk you into junk tires.

My experience....The dealer will offer you very little for the junk tires on your trailer. Then will want high dollar for the tires that he will recommend...usually something he has in stock. And will sock you high labor rate for installation, and balancing. By the way, they will usually insist on putting on ST tires, (like Goodyear Marathons) which are no better than what is on there now.

Possibly could get them to install Michelins if you push hard. But you'll pay dearly.

Best to strike you best deal without the tire discussion, and then go down the street and get your new tires of your choosing put on at a much more reasonable price.

You'll come out cheaper and with better tires.

Guess you have never tried it. They will not loose a sale over this. As I said the new tires in a used RV will be a selling point for them.

Make your best deal then before signing tell them you want GY G's and you will then sign. I know a few that have done this and the deal went thru.

Fact is they will install the takeoffs on a used RV and it will be a selling point for them.

Or, you do your research and make a reasonable out-the-door offer, including new tires (and wheels, if necessary), then be prepared to walk, or offer significantly less, if they won't. Personally, I thing the better deal would be to get your best offer on the FW, then get your best deal on tires (and wheels) from a tire shop. Probably be money ahead, especially as you can turn around and sell the OEM tires and make a bit back.

Highly unlikely any dealer is going to do it on his dollar. Either you will pay, or he will somehow hide it in his price.

Montana, as some others, is now offering a G rated tire option at extra costs.

Remember you may also have to upgrade the wheels because of the increased air pressure required from E to G. Some will come with the wheels to handle the higher air pressure, some don't.

One time I bought a trailer with Michelins. It was an Alfa, 3 axles. After that I just took trailer to my tire man and had them replaced. usually with Maxxis. Whether I had to buy them myself or what ever, its still cheaper to put on good tires rather then tear up the side of the trailers. I've heard of 6000.00 repairs. That would be a lot of damage, and I realize that is probably the extreme.
