Wondering about genny

I am checking into a Raptor 332TS.

the generator Onan 5500 is under the master bed in front.

I am wondering about the noise from these gennys. I haven't gotten to go see one just yet. 'window shopping' floorplans now on the internet.

but if I got one with a genny located in the front of the 5th, would the noise of a genny be too much to handle??? I have no idea.

thanks for any help on this.

oh thanks guys. great info. now I know ๐Ÿ™‚

I am very surprised. this could be a very good edition for us to have. yes it is the Onan 5500 in this toyhauler also. With that kind of power we can have a few conveniences along with the AC so that is a huge plus.

since this is a genny thread anyway--:) can I ask if people run their genny at night for the AC. and how long will a tank last? at least overnight for AC?

a genny in a camper isn't something we had yet. Can I get AC, some lights, tv all at one time? I have no idea on what it can handle? I guess the book tells you the amps etc it will create when running?

just curious what this genny will get me and how much I can use on it.

The only time I needed to run it 24 hrs was at a NASCAR event in Fontucky over Labor Day weekend. I never turned it off all weekend. I think I had to make one trip with the two 5 gallon jugs to refill. It always amazes me how little fuel our big Onan 5500 uses.

yah; we run ours overnight if we need/want ac. We can go an entire weekend on a tank 24 gallons I believe is the size. Our 5500 will run pretty much all of the electricity needs in our 5er (we don't have the 2nd ac unit, if you have duals you get into a couple conflicts but you can still run both ac's at the same time).

If you search they have the per hour usage of the various gensets.

those posts are all very helpful. thanks

I really like that 332TS floorplan plus I am having trouble finding a master KING bed in any of the shorter 5vers. I see tons of floorplans I love in the 40 and over range but I want that smaller type for small campsites in state/federal parks.

One good thing is the genny is on the wardrobe side of the master and not directly under the bed so that might help. it is offset a bit to the one side.

thanks everyone. good help

Our genny is luckily midship and running it does not interfere with sleeping. I've been in a few 5ers that had genny running under front bedroom and noise was not too noticeable in main cabin, owners stated they could sleep with genny on once they were accustomed to the sound.

The gen in our Warrior is right under my wife's side of the bed. We're not allowed to fire it up until she gets up in the morning. It also puts out a lot of heat under the bed.

On our cyclone the genset (5500 onan) is right under the master bed. If we are parked and unhooked the genset isn't bad at all. But if i'm hooked to the hdt and running the genset (which is the usual scenario) it is pretty loud. I think the sound bounces off the back of the truck and back into the 5er.

We can still sleep but you absolutely can hear it running. I wouldn't consider it a deal breaker; but if there was an option or way to quiet down the genset I would consider it.

that is true Pap about the AC unit. they are noisy really and constant most times and I am used to that. ๐Ÿ™‚

I would be using it selectively at night most times anyway. probably not something I would have on constantly.

I was wanting to hit a few national parks and use genny when necessary only.

I can't speak for that model or arrangement, but we have our 4000 located at the rear (pretty much under the floor of our bedroom), and it's going to be noisy, but it's not really all that bad.
I think the A/C makes almost as much noise.....and you really do get used to just about anything, as long as it's a constant...such as a loud rain (without the thunder), so I'd guess that you'd get used to this too.
I work on a Tugboat, so I'm used to having generators or engines running while I sleep:B
I'm not sure how much more noise the 5500 makes, though I'm also guessing that the newer RVs have better insulation and sound deadening.

Hopefully, someone with that set up can comment.
