One of the things that is different than say 10 years ago with the HD trucks is something you think would have been evident in any year. But if you buy a truck now and it says it has a payload of 3800 lbs and it will tow a 17000 lb fifth wheel, the trucks will really do that safely. For instance my 2008 Ram 2500 MegaCab had a pitiful 1800 lb payload. My new Ram is around 3800 lbs.
It comfortably tows 14500 lbs and I have an aux fuel tank in the bed. It doesn’t need air bags, matter of fact it’s boring, put it in fifth gear cruise on 67 and it hardly ever shifts. Tranny stays at 163 and when I tow 580 miles I get there a lot more rested than wrangling my class c all day.”
Sometime around 3600 on the pin and 16500 lbs, you are going to say I’m near the limits and may want to look at a duelie but I think it will still tow fine at those weights.
