Can we stay at Walmarts along US 5 in California?

We are making plans to travel through California south on US 5. Having never been to CA before, we are wondering if we can overnight at most Walmarts or are they all no overnight parking? TIA

The bigger metro area walmarts in CA generally don't allow it (SF bay area, for example), but I think you will be ok in the smaller towns. I stayed the night at one a couple years ago, Lodi I think it was. The one in Yreka looked ok, too.

Smalltown walmarts are chill and quiet. No one is going to shoot you; that is ridiculous.

I also tried WW once and that was enough for me. I would really suggest trying casinos and then check out their buffet.

Really? I live in AZ and I only remember the confrontation between law enforcement and some "religious" people in Cottonwood. And,in that case it was the police who did the shooting. How many more have there been?

Two young men died at WM 101 and Union Hills. Google it.
Lets do some more, Tucson, Chandler, Phoenix, Showlow. So I'm at 6 or 7 dead so far. But you must remember you can save 6 cents on a loft of bread.
I'll go to the RV Park and pay to park.
So big a world, so little time to see.

We did it once, and hope to NEVER experience it again. The five rigs around us when we went to bed turned into five different ones by morning. Car hauler pulled in beside us in the middle of the night and sounded like it was driving thru our bedroom.

Lot of difference between 'camping' and overnight parking.

We have stayed at a couple of Walmarts before; but, we really didn't get much sleep. Between the night time cars driving past us and being wary of criminals and the lot sweeper making noise, we found it was worth the $20 to find a campground for the night! Check out Passport America and other clubs. Rest areas are better in my opinion too.

Many beautiful areas to see in CA and I5 is limited in that regard. Best to call ahead and verify staying overnight at Walmart.

Most of I5 can be roasty toasty in the summer so plan accordingly. Or take your chances on the two mountain passes in the winter.

Thanks. I forgot about Allstays. I used to use it. Just downloaded the app. It will be a big help. Thanks again.
