Help-I need an estimate/range on monthly cost for Electricity at R.V. parks in a new 38' Montana? Always used our own meter for years at our mountain cabin close by and have had friends plugged in and did not ever think about what it was costing each rig. Now planning to hit the big road for a year out West and set up estimated budget. Thanks

Thanks to all of you, this gives us a very good range and will help us decide to take monthly rate or not. Not terribly limited to close on this budget item, but always good to know all the details of a new venture!!More limited on our Starbucks budget however!!ha

We've found only a few RVParks don't make us pay extra for electricity on the monthly rate. Some are easily read with new digital meters, others are hidden or the old style revolving dial.

We pay anywhere from 10c-22c a kw. We just left NC and the first $100 was included in our monthly rent. Now in MN, and while the rate is $100 more, that includes all electric.

Last year in San Antonio, we actually got a copy of the bill with the annual usage on a graph. Some months we would use more than the previous occupant. Other months, we used much less.

We owned an RV lot for over 10 years. We stayed in all seasons and it was in the desert. Electric was .12+ kw/ hour. Only one time did it exceed $100/ mo that was when dh decided to save propane and use electric for heat.

We rented the lot when not there. The last renter was running up $300+ electric bills!!!! Seems they were growing pot :E.....that was the end of renting!

So...moral is.....it can cost a lot if not being conservitive!

Mesa, Az, our electric is $0.11/KWH. Ours runs aroun $60.00/month, we have an on board washer/dryer, usually one load per day.

As stated above it depends on how much YOU use and what the cost per KWh is.
We have paid from $0.12 to $0.20 per KHh.
We use about 300 KWh per month with no AC used. With some AC use it will go up significantly.

In AZ where we spend the winter that costs us about $60 per month - the cost per KWh is $0.20.
Others in the same park use enough electricity to incur bills of over $100 per month - sometimes well over that.

Doesn't matter what any of us say, until you know what your average monthly or daily usage is, there is no way any information you get will be any good for budgeting purposes.

What you need to determine is how many KWHs you are going to use per day. We use about 20KwH/day, assuming temperatures are moderate most of the day. Cold or hot, then about 30 KWH/day. And even in the same conditions, two rigs will be different because of the owner's temperature preference, the amount of insulation in the rigs, whether you have double pane windows or now, whether you have a heated basement or not, etc.

As said before, if staying either overnight or weekly, electric is usually included. Monthly, usually metered, but not always. Also, some places (towns/counties/states) are prohibited from charging more than what they are charged for power, other places they can charge a higher Kwh rate than what they pay.

Unless you rent a RV site by the month, most RV parks include electricity in the daily and weekly rental. And many also include electricity in the monthly rental as well.

We've found .12 to .15 kwH at most all parks.

As far as usage, obviously there's a lot of variables. 50a vs. 30a. What type of climate are you going to be in, etc.

As an average year round, winter in Texas, summer in Ohio, we're probably looking at $75 to $125 a month in our Heartland 3670 with 50a.

Hope that helps.

A big rig in a site for a month runs $100 to $150, that's with us paying the charges, so there is no incentive to keep usage down. We are in a pretty temperate area, so we don't get excessive AC usage. The killer will be if you run electric heat, that can really spin the meter.

Unfortunately RV parks are going to be charged the commercial rate for power so it's going to be much more expensive.
