Fridge Maintenance

I have the 4-door Norcold fridge/freezer which I'm very happy with. I defrost the freezer as needed. The fins in the fridge periodically defrost themselves with the water dripping into a pan that runs the width of the fridge and has a drain at one end. I ASSUME it has a drain tube connected to it. Because I full time and the fridge never gets shut down, I would think the drain tube is constantly wet.

Does anyone ever pour a little bleach in the tray so mold does not form in the drain line ?

Where does the drain hose go ? Is it visible if I crawl under the fiver ? The fridge is in a slide out.

I lived in Florida for almost 20 years and we were taught to pour bleach down the AC condensate drain monthly to keep mold from forming in the drain and clogging it. The drains actually had a lift off cap for that purpose. I even knew someone who had a problem because they didn't follow this procedure.

I spend 5-6 months in Florida during the winter so humidity is still an enemy.

Thanks for the help !

We remove the inside drip tray monthly and clean it. I also check the outside tray monthly to make sure the water is evaporating and not too high.

I really don't think the bleach cleaning is necessary. I have had the plug in the end of the tube clog on occasion, causing the water to remain and collect in the drip tray. Just clean the plug and back in business.

No, Straight bleach can eat into rubber seals o rings etc.

I found THIS product to work real well for bleaching instead of straight bleach.

Only the 'brand' name one works so you have to look very carefully at the label. Lot of knock offs/generic ones out there don't work.

Also Chlorox makes a couple different ones, Look for the words 'clean-up' on the bottle. That's the only one that kills 99% germs and wipes out mold.

This stuff kills mold instantly. I use it for everything in the MH.....now that I'm in mold city Florida! :C

Thanks Old-Biscuit. Yes, it has been a while since I did that. And I never connected the dots. DUH !

Would you suggest adding a little bleach water periodically to the tray in the fridge ? I know bleach is a harmful chemical and I don't know if the tube or the drip bowl will stand up to it.

Thanks again.

Drain tube goes down backside of fridge in outside compartment and the end goes into a drip bowl next to burner stack and gets evaporated

Remove fridge lower vent (access panel) and have a look.
