Full timing and church

We are in the early days of preparing to go on the road full time but are very active in our local church. We plan to find ministry opportunities along the way but feel we will miss having that local congregation. We are just wondering how other full timers handle the whole church thing while on the road.
  • As a Southern Baptist we thoroughly enjoyed going to churches in the South...some of that good ole time hell fire brimstone preaching that is difficult to find elsewhere.

During our FT stint is was easy finding a church....some more up-lifting then others but there is a church in every town/city
  • Sometimes it is interesting to go to a different denomination than you are used to.
  • In all our years of full timing, it's a rare Sunday that we are not in Church. I do a church search and generally know where we will be attending even before we get to our destination. This does take a little planning as we generally move ever 2 to 3 weeks. Over the years we have made repeat visits to a lot of the churches we have visited. It feels great when we again meet someone and when others remember us.

Many campgrounds have Church services, however they are not usually to our preference. We prefer evangelical Bible based teaching churches with contemporary worship. So far in over four years of full timing God has been faithful in supplying that to us. I do a little research on Google and of course ask for heavenly guidance! As small as 8 in attendance and as large as 20 Thousand! We still tithe to our home church and then give love offerings to the local ones. It seems that since we've been on the road we stay really healthy and have only missed I think 3 Sunday's!
People are always glad to have us and interested in our traveling lifestyle. We decided early that we couldn't compare to our home church, since no others could complete! Lol. We just join in like we have been there for years since they are our brothers and sisters in Christ! Trust in God, it really has worked out great!
  • I have some people in our Good Sam group who volunteered with Habitat for Humanity for several years while full-timing. They would work four or five one month projects a year in return for an RV spot at various locations across the country.

One of the things they really enjoyed was the faith based nature of Habitat, with the morning devotionals and the connection with local churches where the projects were located.

You might want to look into that.

But as mentioned above - most churches are welcoming to visitors, and you can choose to become involved and to which degree.
  • Go wherever you are. Most churches will welcome you, and invite you back. Personally, I can get a lot of religion sitting under a tree and contemplating the wonders all around us. Don't need a lot of others to help me do that.
  • I just go wherever I am. You will get use to that after a while.
In the winter I stay for 3-4 months at one place and get involved locally.
