Yep! It takes a while to become a Resident of AK & one must live at least 6 months of each year in AK to keep it. No way to do so without being there over a year, really.
My son & his wife have become residents while living there in the US Air Force.
Unlike other state AK Residents receive a share of the oil money each year, therefore it is not an easy place to get Residency. Or to keep it.
South Dakota is the state you need to check out. Easy to do. But you may have to go there at least once. Texas also is used for this.
