Question - what do most full-time RV users do for things that might need a physical address - like medical insurance? And in regards to medical insurance - how did any of you set this up if you do not have a permanent state to live in or address?ThanksJK

If you are on Medicare, they have supplement plans that will cover your non-emergency healthcare in every State. Obviously these cost more.In an emergency, Medicare will cover you in every State.

Every fulltimer that I know, does have a physical address that they use for tax filing, banking, insurance, etc. It may be an address provided by a mail forwarding service, a relative's house or even a campground address but they all have an address. The favorite states for full timers, particularly those who do not own real estate, are Texas, South Dakota & Florida. Try looking up Escapees.com for more information about domicile.

Glad to see this post. I was just trying to figure out this same question! One time I had a box at a "Mailboxes Etc" store. But that was a long time ago, didn't know if they still existed.

We use Dakota Post, SD for our physical address. SD is cool with this. We vote with this address, our passports are with this address. There are also opportunities to use facilities in TX and FL to have a domicile without living there.

We are on traditional Medicare, and Tricare For Life, so medical insurance has not been an issues with SD, but pre-medicare folks have challenges.

As stated, full-timers who don't own a home still need an address for certain documents, including a voter's card and you can vote early by mail. We chose Texas and used the Escapees Mail Forwarding Service for 16+ years with no problems.

Since all the new medical insurance changes in the past couple years, things have changed greatly for those under Medicare age. It used to be that South Dakota and Texas were the preferred but now things have shifted if you need to purchase your own insurance. As stated above, even within a particular state, the county your address is in makes a difference.

This will really require some in-depth research on your part as to what state (& county) you want your address. Florida now seems good - so far.

If you have been in the armed forces the VA is everywhere. Walk right in and sit right down. I visited Tuesday after my spare tire about broke my leg. In and out in 2 hours. Durham, NC

You are welcome. We used Florida because it fit in with visiting family (primarily in Maryland & Indiana) better than Texas for us personally. We also knew that whenever we decided to resettle in the future, it was more likely to be in Florida versus Texas for the same reason.

A question for everyone out there who is a member of escapees.com and uses their domicile/mail service: Which state do you use and why? I was thinking of using Florida, since they have a lot of RV dealerships so a lot of RVs to look at and choose from. when I am ready to get on board, just go to Florida, purchase my RV and get everything set up. Then I am off on my adventure!

the 'Mailboxes, Etc' shops morphed into 'The UPS Stores' a few years back.

Health Insurance, whether prior to age 65 or as a supplement is usually based on area or zip code. Whet I sell in the west side of MI. is about half the cost of the same in Detroit area. Coverage is the same. Plan F is the tops in supplements but there is also a high ded F offered by some companies that works is you are very healthy.
