Just wondering Why?

I and my wife were talking about our full time lifestyle, which just passed seven years on the road. One thing we noticed is we seem to have “luxuries” that we never had when working.
The following list is some of the things we never had when working, but have now:

1. Tissues at convenient locations throughout our space
2. Gourmet Coffee
3. Crock Pot
4. A good working can opener. (Hand Operated)
5. Large screen TV
6. Electric fireplace
7. Bread maker and thus fresh made bread
8. Sleep Number bed
9. Custom reading lights in the bedroom
10. Propane exterior Fire Pit
11. House wide sound system
12.Extra Refrigerator for large purchases

Yes, when working, we had lots of toys like boats, motorcycles, etc. Maybe we were too busy chasing the dollar to notice, or buy the “little” things that make life so comfortable?

Now, we have less, but in a way we have so much more. Not counting all the other advantages of this lifestyle. Your thoughts?
  • We're actually able to save more money fulltiming on one income working than we were both working fulltime. Of course, we don't have any children living with us anymore, which helps a lot. LOL

Have seen some of DH's family more frequently than mine, including cousins he hadn't seen since 1969. And in a small space we just don't need stuff.
  • One thing we lost when moving to the Fulltime lifestyle was stress.

We sure do not miss it either !!!!
  • What we have gained are Pacific Ocean views, snow capped mountains, vast open spaces, hidden lakes and sparking waterfalls, wildlife in natural settings. Yeah not a bad way to live.
  • The nice thing for us is the lack of******that accumulates. It takes a few years but you really get rid of a lot of junk and as you are getting rid of said junk you realize how much of it was costly yet totally worthless.

Its a great lifestyle. We downsized from a 4000 under air to our Newmar and if I ever buy another house it will be a small one.

I think a lot of people need the large space to fill because their lives are so empty. So they go bigger and bigger trying harder and harder to fill that void with things. You can't fill it that way.
  • I think now you have the time to think about what you have. Kind of like "counting flowers on the wall"...
