Medicare for full timers

I just began full-timing and while in Florida last winter I joined up with a Medicare group that seemed real good. They actually paid my monthly fee to SS and gave me real good service. The fly in the ointment is the fact that they want me to stay in the florida area (their area) at least 6 months out of the year to receive this service. Is this commonplace or what? What do other full timers do?

Yes changes coming.

Like reducing or eliminating the donut hole or requiring that the insurance company actually spend at least 80 % of premiums on healthcare.

How dare they.:B
Plus they like you so well, that all this "change" will only increase your cost 10 fold.....:s

Source please. And no not Faux news. :S

Agree with poster, loo where the FOX news post came from. Enjoy paying millions for Perry's stupidity.

Oh and on topic part D of medicare..everyone has under the ACA. You don't sign up for it but it is yours. So far I have saved over 500 bucks for my scripts under the ACA !!!!!!!

Go with regular Medicare and have a supplement that you can use nationwide. What you have is like an HMO and isn't good in many states. I doubt it will be any good after the Affordable Health Care Act is fully implemented anyway. There is talk about eliminating the HMO Medicare plans.

Sounds like you have an advantage plan. You get PPO or HMO from advantage plans and the limit the coverage area and usually have a poor selection of docs and facilities that are in network.
I am getting rid of mine and switching to a medicare supplement/gap plan that covers 100% of the bill and is good anywhere I go. Get your plan from a broker or go online and sign up. AARP adds a markup to the coverage you get from them so they can give you a discount and you end up paying what other plans would have charged without going thru AARP.

There is a legal difference between residence address and mailing address. Be careful who you listen to. You could have to pay your own bills.

AARP/United Plan F...coverage everywhere. Pick your docs/hospitals, as long as they accept Medicare. No co-pays, deductibles, paperwork. Show the cards, that's it, zero issues. ๐Ÿ™‚ Just our experience. Some stats have lower rates, if choosing an address for residence.

Is this a Medicare Advantage plan? If so, you will be chained to their area for anything but emergency care. You'd be better off with regular Part A and Part B, then add a supplement and a drug plan. Takes a little more work, but works better for Fulltimers.

What you have is a HMO supplement which has special requirements.

What you need if you travel is a PPO supplement whereby you can use any doctor or facility of your choice. What's especially neat about that is that you can go to the best in the country! We have used Transamerica through Good Sam for 10 years and they have always paid everything with no copays. We've had multiple surgeries, including cancer. It works great.

Of course with many new 'rules' coming up in government everything might change for all of us. ๐Ÿ˜ž

Some plans let you go anywhere anytime, and others require your to remain in a given area. Some let your travel outside the country, and others will not cover you outside the country. I have heard that some of the AAPR plans are quite popular with full timers who travel all over. Don't know which one cause I am still covered under my wife's work plan. But am researching cause she is coming up on retirement.
