Nomadland Film

This has drawn quite a bit of interest on another RV forum so I am posting here for anyone who may be interested. Not applicable to me but informative.

  • I agree kind of depressing...and not totally realtistic...left a lot out.
  • Nomadland was very dark. I can attest that it's well done, but I can't say I liked it. I've been a nomad for many years and felt it gave only a small slice of what the lifestyle is llke, a depressing one.
  • I found that movie a bit dark and brooding compared t my experiences.
  • Nomadland is just one example of independently (outside Hollywood) made movies that have dominated the Oscars in recent years.

In fact, my favorite movie so far this year is CODA. Saw it during an invitational screening by Apple. It manages to be hilariously funny, while heartwarming at the same time. Especially, the witty father and eccentric music teacher. Including the relatively unknown teenage lead actor Emilia Jones who is phenomenal.

CODA garnered four of the top awards at Sundance Film Festival this year, and could be the leading contender for best picture at next year's Oscars. I believe it opens at the end of this week.

Another independent movie which is unlike anything I've ever seen is the thought provoking Nine Days. Great to actually see movies truly original.
