Part time insurance for fulltimers

My wife and I have been fulltiming for nearly 8 years. For the past several years, we have done volunteer work during the winter months, and then return to my hometown to spend the summers. We are actually on the road for only about 1 month total, yet we pay insurance on our rig for the entire 12 months. What I'm wondering is: are there any insurance carriers who will let you suspend the travel part of insurance, ie; collision, road service, liability, medical...everything except comprehensive, which we would want to have applied permanently? It seems ridiculous to pay for the other coverage for 12 months, when you only need it for one. Thanks.

Unless you cancel your registration, you can't cancel your insurance without penalties from the state, including fines and potentially revoking your license. You can downgrade your policy to the minimum required in your state any time you wish, depending on your insurance company. Otherwise, you will have to cancel and then reregister your vehicle every time you want to drive it.

That is interesting how different states work. In Arizona, if a motorized vehicle is not being driven on the road, you can simply fill out a form with the MVD saying such, and it is ok to cancel liability insurance as long as you would like to.

To the OP, when we had GMAC on our DP, they would cancel the liability and keep only the comp and collision on. Had to be for a minimum of 30 days at a time at a time though.
