I lived in Orlando for about 15 years. From mid August into mid-October seems to be when there is the biggest chance of a hurricane causing disruption in Florida. Hurricanes draw their power from warm ocean water and by September, the Florida and Caribbean areas of the Atlantic Ocean and also the Gulf waters have been heating up for a good 6 months, storing up a vast amount of heat energy. The advice I give friends is to not plan a vacation in Florida during that time.
I always feel sorry for families who have planned a Florida vacation to Disney or the Keys for years, scheduled vacation time, made reservations, and spent thousands of dollars for tickets, hotels, campgrounds, car rentals, etc and then have to leave due to a hurricane.
