5th Wheel, Prime Time Crusader Lite 27RK (Single Slide floor plan). Planning on leaving for Quartzite, AZ mid-late September through February as my 1st half of 1st year. Then, one (maybe two) months in a New Mexico state park (will decide when I'm on the way on that), then back to Colorado, Wyoming, MT, Idaho for the last six months. Not all of those, just some. Colorado for sure as my home base because family is here, but want to spend more than a week seeing Yellowstone. My son and I used to go there every year for 5 years by ourselves when he was little (for a week). We had cram in the tourist stuff and not really get off the pavement much. Going to rectify that, at least for myself.Anyway, pretty Psyched, had to tell someone, my little dog Jasper did't seem interested :DIf anyone has spent a winter or at least some time during the winter in Quartzite any suggestions, ideas, places to see etc. would be appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like a good plan... Jasper will get more interested as time goes on with all the new sniffs and adventures. Have fun...it is the jouney, not the destination...

Will see you in Quartzsite. I would recommend Cedar Cove RV Park in Elephant Butte NM. I stay there often. State parks only allow a 14 day stay. So have to move a lot.Q has a website with all the info you want. Better make a reservation soon. The RV parks fill up especially in January. Course you can always dry camp in the desert like many thousands do. Call me if you wish.

If you've never been to Quartzsite I wouldn't commit to 5 months right away. It's quite different. :) Since you plan to be there in September (still hot, by the way) there's plenty of time to look the place over to see if you want to stay that long then if you want to stay in one of the RV parks rather than long-term boondocking, you'll have plenty of time to make a reservation since you'll be there already.Have fun with your new lifestyle! So much to see in Arizona. Get your passport if you don't have and go into Mexico down by Yuma. That's a fun time. Go on google and do a search for "what to see in Arizona"...or whatever state you are interested in. Do you like rockhounding? Whether you do or not, check out Quartzsite's gem and mineral club. Very economical to join and cheap classes in leatherwork, rock cutting, jewelrymaking, etc. See you in the fall. We'll be there in Oct.

Absolutely! And don't forget to buy the NM State Park Camping Pass for $225/yr you can dry camp all you want in any of their many fantastic parks with use of dump/fill and full service bath house. For and extra $4/night you can also hook up to W/E/

Quartzsite is a quirky little town, lots to do for us older folk, check out the Quartzsite Improvement Association, they have a lot going on during the winter season and are always looking for volunteers to help out.

If you want to try camping that's something like an RV Park but kind of like Boon docking you can go to the one of the LTVAs or long term visitor area's in Quartzsite. You can try it out for two weeks for $40, and you will be camped in the desert like a boondocker, but you will have access to water and a dump station. All you have to do is provide your own electricity. theboondork

We spent all or part of the winter for 9 years near Quartzsite in the Coyote Ridge RV park in Bouse AZ. About 25 miles or so from Q. Close enough to go over for lunch or dinner or visiting the vendors but out of the hustle and bustle. $160 per month for full hookup with metered electricity extra - cost us about $50 per month with no AC used.
About 25 miles from Parker which has supermarkets (Safeway, Walmart, and some smaller ones) drugstores, and a good hospital.

If you call for a reservation ask for the middle row.

Be prepared for a very large RV Show in January followed (or perhaps preceded) by the Rock and Gem Show, with an occasional Classic Car Rally thrown in for good measure. The place is crazy busy for about a month. Makes for interesting people watching. "Al's Pizza" is my favorite place to eat. Road trips to Parker, Havasu City, Oatman, and Laughlin are in order as well. Cant just sit around camp all day! We have wintere3d in Yuma for the past 4 years. We really like the Desert Southwest! Enjoy!

Different is what I'm going for here! :) I'll be staying at an RV park for sure, don't think I'm ready for that desert dry boondocking thing just yet. Gonna learn to swim before I try to fly!
