Im kind of a new guy here with about 4 months till retirement. DW and I have been camping forever and love National Forest campgrounds. We like the type of people who can enjoy camping without all the amenities. If you could post your favorite primitive campground I would love to see them. We like being around other people but like the NF sites because you are not on top of each other. Looking forward to meeting some of the fine folks who post here.

Mockturtle, your picture of Pharanaghat looks like the site we had 9-22-2015 on a Tuesday night. I believe there was more water fowl in the area than we have ever seen there. Have safe travels!

I camp in NF campgrounds more than any other. That said, one of my recent favorite finds is the Pahrangat National Wildlife Refuge, just south of Alamo, NV. And it's free! Here's a photo of my site:

Also in NV, I recently visited Angel Creek NF campground near Wells, NV.

Thanks Fred! Winters will be very open. We are probably about a year away from being able to hit the road full time. Grand Canyon is on the List!

Hi,

You might like this website a lot.

FreeCampgrounds.com

THey offer a lot of free and nearly free camping places in every state. I especially like camping in the Forest just north of the Grand Canyon. It is 7,700' elevation, so if you like jogging, you might run out of breath sooner than normal. But it is mostly pretty cool in the summer, and buried in snow from November to April.

Other parts of Arizona are better for winter. Like Ajo, it is a very economical place to spend the winter, very little cost to stay in a campground, or you can dry camp a week, then spend a night or two in a campground, then dry camp another week, until your tanks need to be refilled.

Many like to visit Quartzsite for a few days, or even stay weeks at a time. There is a free campground about 5 miles north of town, that is not nearly as dusty as the others. Full hookup sites can be found for as little as $20 a night, but the better places with larger sites charge more.

Do you plan on full timing all winter in the RV?

Are you looking for a list of places to travel to while camping all winter or for some specific timeframe?

Have fun in your adventures!

Fred.
Money can't buy happiness but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a

Porsche or Country Coach!

If there's a WILL, I want to be in it!
