This Past Camping Season

Hello All,

Well, another season has just about pasted us by and we are very close to purchasing a new MH. Most likely Jan - Feb 2016. We stepped out of this season because we sold our 15 year old coach.

So, I've got a question for all the part time as well as full time campers and also the weekend warriors. How did everyone find travelling around the country this year? Since the price of fuel was relatively low and, this is a big AND, the economy is suppose to be getting strong :) Was it easy to find sites and just pull in OR did folks have to make sure that they have reservations? I've heard that it's getting difficult to move around and find sites if you don't have reservations.

We plan to go full-time in the fall of 2016 and we're trying to gauge what we need to do to move around freely.....Especially if we're in a 45' coach.

So what? Some people who read "full-time RVing" might not read "Class A Motor Homes" or vice versa. The site will survive!
After 9 years you should know the rules. And so should the OP.

  • Paul,

I can't answer that because we don't camp - we RV. Camping is what people do to take a break from their everyday lives, be it a weekend or a 2-week vacation. RVing is when you do when living everyday in an RV. This isn't a break, this is a lifestyle. We made sure we had reservations way ahead for Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day, so we could just hunker down and let everyone else get their limited vacation time in. Otherwise it was about the same as it has been every other year, just get them as needed. We don't do state/national parks in the summertime since those are always booked solid Thurs-Sunday during the first 2 weeks of January. We never know that far ahead where we will be, so we don't worry. That's why we have membership parks to use.

We've been fulltiming 9 years, and this was the strangest summer we've ever spent. We're on the West Coast and have spent more time in HOT, HOT weather in Washington state than I can ever remember and have had smoke in the area for many, many weeks. Sunday morning it looked like a like snow coming down as we moved from Northern Sonoma Valley (Cloverdale) with the smoke & ash coming over from the Valley (Middletown) fire.

This is one of our favorite times of the years - kids are back in schools so parks are very quite and the weather is still warm and it is a great time to slowly make our way back to Arizona for the winter.

We always make sure we have reservations. The places we camp fill up fast. We reserve usually months in advance.
