Sounds like you might want to look at a used fiver, a lot of them are used for full time living, both travel and sitting for long periods of time. A bus conversion, while an option for sure, will not be stealthy, and will be turned away from some campgrounds. Regarding quality, yes there are horror stories out there, but most rvs are actually pretty trouble free, and as been pointed out, repairable. More likely to cause problems full timing are external problems(some not repairable), health, family, financial, etc.
