I’m often asked what tools and maintenance items I carry along while pursuing the Full Time RV Life. While organizing the RV this spring I pulled out all my tools and thought this would be a good time to show to you the stuff I carry. When RVing there is always the balance between carrying what you may need and adding to much weight to the rig. I would love to carry many more items but due to space and weight considerations it’s not practical. I do try to bring along enough tools and maintenance items to hopefully solve any minor issues that happen out on the road.Link to my blog post detailing what I carry

I may have missed it but I carry pex plumbing repair items and an electric impact driver. I also carry many tools as you never know when you may need one.

I reduced the number of tools I carry to basic hand tools, testers and air compressor. Lowes and Home Depot store all of the speciality tools till I need them.

I have to side with having a good assortment of tools and supplies. It's nice to be able to find what you need at a store but even nicer to have it with you and don't have to find your way to a store. On several occasions, we managed a fix and got back on the road in much less time than if we had to wait for someone to help. We have also been blessed in finding helpful people.

This Is what never leave without;

-hammer/axe/hatchet
-full set of pliers and assorted plumbing tools+snake
-full set of wrenches/allen wrenches/full socket set/impact sockets
-drills/impact gun/rivet gun
-20 ton bottle jack/2 ton floor jack/four jack stands
-air compressor/hose/air guage filler
-10" miter saw/jig saw/circular saw/recipical saw/brad nailer

Believe it or not I or someone else ends up using these tools at one point.

Best tool to carry is a good road assistance policy. We've been happy with CoachNet.

I ran into a family pulling a travel trailer in a remote village in the Yukon. They had torn part of their black gas piping off the bottom of the rig. They had the tools to do the job, a 1/2 IPS fitting they unexpectedly found at the local general store/bakery/hardware store, and could of easily gotten everything cobbled back together, but there wasn't an inch of teflon tape to be found anywhere. I was passing through and had a roll to share. I'm all for packing every tool you can, and don't forget the duct tape, teflon, silcone, tywraps. electrical tape, and............

I'm looking into adding an impact driver and some Eternabond tape this year. Thanks for mentioning pex plumbing repair. Will check it out.

In our 9 years of fulltiming we needed tools where there were no stores. We took everything we would ever need toolwise, from day one. When you are 100 miles from nowhere and you need it...it is best to have it.

I did not see any hardware stores when I was in Death Valley.

Better have a tool and not need it, than to need a tool and not have it!
