I'm also thinking about full-timing and read with interest the post below about the cons and pros, but what is your month usually like? Do you mostly travel? Do you stay at RV Parks, campgrounds, boondock?We were thinking about taking like one state at a time and just moving when we felt like it.

We travel every week to 2 weeks........travel 250 miles or less then park and explore the area. Then we move another 250 miles or less...repeat.We stay in public CGs, private CGs. COEs, State/National CGs, fairgrounds, boondock, city parks.We try to travel via secondary/backroads vs Interstates as much as possible.We have never Walmart/Rest Stop overnighted.......we rarely overnight anywhere.We went FT to travel and see as much as possible.......but not in a hurry.We just meander were and when we want.We purchased a 'membership' via a resale and use it when we can......FHU's for $10/15 a night to control 'housing' costs.

Well, like everything else, you can get thousands of answers. Thankfully, we are all different and are interested in doing different things. We park host 6 months of the year in CA then travel for 6 months. It depends on our plans, in 2011 we went all the way from CA to the FL panhandle on I 10 then north on the east coast all the way up to Niagra Falls. We came back down through PA, OH, KY, TN then stopped for a few weeks to visit family in NW AR before heading back to CA. That was a 6 month trip. In 2013 we went to Tucson for 3 months, then TX, AR, IL, WI, MI, IN, over to MT to visit relatives and back to CA. We enjoy visiting national parks, COE parks and other places we were never able to see while working. Some people like to golf, fish, attend Nascar races, visit caves. We stay busy, either traveling or seeing sites, sometimes we spend a couple of weeks on maintenance.

When full timing, we stayed anywhere from a week to a month at each place, perhaps once or twice a year staying only a night or two at a particular location. DW wanted a house so we bought one two years ago ...this week is a bummer as we arrived back at the house after 4 1/2 months on the road and have yard to now, stuff to unload, and the other bummer tasks to do ...Enjoy the adventure while you can !

We spend five winter months in Florida, then travel and do campground hosting in Texas and Colorado maximum of three months total - maximum two months in one spot, always different State Park campground each season. That leaves four months of travel, plus exploring area around camp host state.

Well this month is a little different because we are getting poked, prodded, and assorted medical checkup delights (including Shadow at the vets) so we are staying in one place for the month and getting it all done. Usually we are 1-2 weeks in a spot then move down the road (200-250 miles away) and repeat. We use the time to explore with our car and have a 1.5 hr driving radius for exploring from our 'spot'. We work in time to geocache in the area, try the local cuisine, explore interesting spots,and some just down time for routine cleaning, etc.Barb

We have been camp hosting at different parks all summer so this gives us time to see the area. We do not travel far and try to limit our travel to 150 miles between parks. Looking to do more travels out west in the future but for now we are hanging around the east coast.

Our months vary - if we are volunteering like we are now, we will be in each of three Oregon State Parks one per month until January when we will stay 2 months, then travel to another park for a month, take a month & a half off before either volunteering at our Home Base or taking the summer off .. will be traveling approx. 100 miles between volunteer sites, and going places we have not been before.
Previously we have stayed 2-3 months wherever we volunteer, so there is no "normal month" for us.
A delightful aspect of full-timing for us is that there is no 'normal'.

We have been on the road a year and 99% of the time we stay put one week and then move on. We have had times we have only moved 100 miles and then settled for another week but never farther than 250 miles.
We stay in state parks, private parks, COE, National and most certainly boondock when we can. It's a lot harder to boondock out east than farther west. We have never camped in a parking lot yet, but would.
I will admit that after one year on the road I'm almost looking forward to finding a spot to settle for 1 whole month later this winter.

When we fulltimed, our goal was to stay in fair-weather year-round.. Up in the Northwest during the summers, down in the Southwest during the Winter... Took us a couple months traveling at a very slow pace to reach our goals..

We had a Campground Membership to help with park fees, rarely spending more than $10/day.. We also took advantage of monthly stays, boondocking/overnight stays when traveling..

Had a Motorhome pulling a small pickup.. After nine years, wife wanted another house, so we quit fulltiming.. I do not like this stick house life and wish we were still on the road..

Doing one state at a time is a good strategy because most states have their own little flavor and culture. You get to immerse yourself it in and really learn a lot about the state.

We meander along on back roads as much as possible. We try to stay between 50 - 100 miles a day. We're a little different that most fulltimers because we don't have a towed car so our RV goes everywhere with us. That means that we don't stay anywhere for a long time, maybe a day, maybe a week unless we're visiting friends or relatives and then we stay longer.

RV parks with amenities aren't important to us so we stay at public parks, boondock on public land and stay in big box stores if we're visiting a city.

There are so many different ways to live this lifestyle. You'll find what suits you when you start fulltiming.

Boy where do I sign up. I like the idea of exploring the area and not moving every day, just due to the price of fuel if nothing else.

Depends on where we're going and what's to see and do in the area. We stay at Corps of Engineers parks, state parks and commercial parks. We like hookups and to be able to get satellite TV. We say from 3 nights to a month depending on how much we like the area. Week is about average. We take advantage of weekly rates at commercial campgrounds. When we move, we travel about 3-5 hours and stop early in the day. We travel Sun-Thurs so we won't have problems getting sites at campgrounds.
