So, I have been told that hand guns are not allowed when crossing into Canada... and shotguns and rifles are probably more of a hassle than you want, unless you are specifically going there to hunt...

What about a pellet air rifle?

My only advice is if you feel the need to circumvent the law make sure you have an attorney at the ready and are willing to accept the repercussions.

The last time I went to Canada they asked for a passport going both ways. That was several years ago.

A passport make getting back INTO the US easier and probably will be a requirement in the future.

If you are going to the Canadian bush it is worthwhile to bring a rifle. It is possible to get permission to bring one across. Do your homework, fill out the paper work and it is no big deal. Remember to have a pass port.

Go visit Canada...it is a great country with friendly people. Leave your guns at home...the Canadians don't want them or people with them!

I wouldnโ€™t want to test that theory ......... not without a boat in tow anyway.

Just like pepper spray, if itโ€™s labeled as bear spray, and youโ€™re going to be in bear country, no problem. If youโ€™re going only to Toronto youโ€™ll likely be crossing the border without it.

As for the pellet gun, donโ€™t worry, our squirrels are friendly, they donโ€™t attack people.

Years ago my brother and I drove into Canada. We were searched. Little did I know that he had a co2 cartridge pistol in his luggage. I sweat bricks for two hours while they checked with the gun manufacturer to find out the exact discharge speed of the pellets in feet per second. Guns and Canada do not mix. Period. Even mace in the wifeโ€™s purse will get you into trouble, although if you declare and show it some bear repellants are OK.

Canada is different. You really don't even feel the need to have a gun. People are super nice. Even the crazy ones.

Why would you need a pellet rifle? I can't think of a worse self defense weapon. I have a very powerful break barrel and while it provides a cheap way to plink cans, it isn't good for much else. It is single shot, and takes a lifetime to reload. My guess is if you needed it to protect yourself from anything larger than a rabbit, you would be outgunned. It would likely only enrage a determined human attacker. I doubt a grizzly would even feel it. I think it would, however, garner a whole lot of attention from the Canadian Border officers. If one of your goals is to have your RV examined more thoroughly than a colonoscopy a pellet rifle seems to be good bait.

Just leave it at home unless you have a specific reason for having it. Remember, your entering a foreign country.
