- Our Canadian neighbors fight the fires. They pay more attention to ones that are near populated areas, then work on the more remote ones.

Yes and no.
In the lower 48, it's rare to be more than 5 miles to the nearest road and similarly there is development even in comparatively remote areas. This means you can get firefighters to the fire and there are buildings and facilities that need to be protected.
In Canada, it's not uncommon to have areas 20-50miles (or more) to the neared road. In much of this area there are no buildings or development to protect. So if you have a fire 50miles to the nearest road and no development near it...it's drastically harder to get fire fighters to the fire and there isn't much of anything to protect. But if you have a fire near a road or town, yes, they try to get it under control.
Keep in mind, the old days of stamp out any fire as soon as you can are gone (in the lower 48 also). This just lead to a build up of underbrush which resulted in fires that were harder to contain. - NamMedevac_70Explorer IIIs it true the Canuks do not fight their wildfires but let them burn forever????
