50 am cord

I'm a Newbie to RV . I have a 2000 Georgie Boy Landau . The 50 am cord is hard wire on one end and on the other is plugged in an electrical box inside the storage bay. I did pull this out and plugged it in a shore-line for a couple days.
What is this electrical box for ?

    amp, not am.

I thought it was rather light out to be 50 AM already. :W
  • There is normally a junction box to convert from the cable to interior wiring of the rig. In your case they have mounted a power inlet receptacle in this box.
Don't get confused with the transfer switch box. That box has relays that isolate the genset from the shore power.
  • Probably for the generator to provide power to the coach. On some coaches, the generator is wired to an automatic transfer switch which performs that plug in task automatically.
  • Some of the older units have that box. It is the feed from your generator, so you need to be plugged into it when using your generator.
