- C20ExplorerWe changed ours at 50k. Tested the fluid and based on that Allison recommend that the next service interval be around 80k, and test it again. No worries just thought the next one should be sooner.
- BUB1988ExplorerWe have 03 and did not having any maintenance records. So we felt like the transynd was worth the $500. I don't have the paper work in front of me but I believe it the fluid itself is good for 50,000 to 75,000 miles and the filters should be changed every 3 yrs.
- Hank_MIExplorerThe only time you need to drop the pan and change the pan filter is during a rebuild. Changing the pan filter is not considered a maintenance item. Change the spin on filter when replacing the trans fluid. Being a 2003 if it hasn't been changed then it's probably Dexron III. There is no way to determine which is in the transmission. Testing the fluid only determines the amount contaminants and if it should be changed. To change to Transynd you need to do a double drain and replace. Drain the fluid and replace with the same amount of Transynd. If you allow the rig to sit for a few days you'll drain out more fluid since some of the fluid in the torque converter has drained into the pan. You're looking at 12-14 quarts, depending on how much as drained from the torque converter. Drive the rig to mix the Transynd with the remaining Dexron III. Drain and refill again with Transynd and replace the spin on filter.
If you choose to have it done as opposed to doing it yourself DO NOT let them do a power flush. Allison strongly recommends against that.
The double drain procedure meets Allison specs and you can now use the Transynd maintenance schedule. There is an Allison sub-forum on irv2 forums. A member there is a former Allison fluids engineer and can answer any further questions you have.
Transynd is expensive and you won't find it at your local auto parts store. Any truck service center will have it available. If you choose to do it yourself go to the Allison website. You'll find a list of fluids that meet the TES-295 (Transynd) spec. You can then search the internet to find the best price. - ArchHoaglandExplorer

Pull a sample and change it to synthetic. It's One helluva lot cheaper to change it every 10000 miles than to buy a $6000 transmission and be sitting for a week in Yuma in 120 degree heat waiting for it to be fixed.

- mike_brezExplorerWhen I purchased my coach it came without any service records. Once we drove it the 1200 miles home I changed the filters and the fluid over to transynd. I couldent see doing the double flush thing so I'm on the basic change intervel until my next change.

Thanks, the motor home is in the shop to have an earlier repair checked and I asked them to let me know if the filters need to be changed, we'll see.
Not sure why people buy RV's except they are fun to travel with.:h
The shop people will have no way of knowing if the filters need to be changed. - Jim_NormanExplorerI'd check with Allison. The new 3000's have a 5-year fluid change requirement. Older units have a shorter interval. Cummins requires a 12m/15k service schedule regardless of which comes first so even if you only go 5000 miles a year you still need to d the service to keep up any extended warranty. If you have a coach that is well out of any warranty, I'd get a baseline by doing ALL the engine, trans and chassis service then you at least know everything is good now.
