Another thing I love about our 24' C

Just returned from a 4 day - 3 night trip up to the Mogollon Rim in the White Mountains to beat the recently arrived summer heat of Tucson in June. After sitting for a couple of weeks since our last trip the coach had more than a fair amount of dust, such is life in the high Sonoran Desert.

We enjoyed the record shattering early Monsoon rain courtesy of the first two early eastern Pacific hurricanes, not a lot of rain but anything falling in June is one for the books. Yep, the rain was nice and just enough to really dirty up the rig but not quite enough to rinse it clean.

This morning I drove 8 miles down the road toward Tucson and sure enough the local high school kids were holding another of their Saturday morning fund raiser car washes. Things were slow when I pulled in at 9:00 and they happily agreed to wash the coach for $15. I pulled out the 3 step stool and my telescoping soft brush to make their job a little easier.

The girls basketball team (several of whom had a lot more reach than I), descended on our 24' Nexus Phantom and in 15 minutes had it shining like new. I make a habit out of supporting the high school kids whenever the rig gets dirty (which gets me out of washing it), a win, win for all. I'm not so sure they would want to tackle a Class A or fiver but they enthusiastically made quick work of our 24 footer.

Pnichols..no this is not our floorplan. We have a small hallway with bathroom on one side containing commode,sink,several cupboards,and across the hall is a shower in its own "room". Our rear bed is crosswise with lots of overhead cupboards,a closet,nightstand,corner cupboard for your tv and a tall closet w drawer beneath.By opening the shower door you can close off the baths and bedroom for privacy for sleeping or dressing. We have pass thru storage in the rear and two other lg. lined compartments. Kitchen is L-shaped,and the dinette and swivel chair.

Part of it is that RV makers can charge you an arm and a leg for a Sprinter chassis and "euro" styling. The Sprinter chassis might cost 5-10 grand more, the Euro-esque materials might be another grand... and they get a $20,000 markup. This is why no RV dealer near me carries the short Ford based "C"s, such as the Sunseeker 2290S.

The floorplan you describe kindof sounds like the floorplan of our 2005 Itasca 24 foot non-slide widebody Class C.

We love our unit too. It's great for the two of us and our little dog. Does everything well and goes everywhere. It's on the optional heavy duty E450 cutaway van chassis. We even take it off the pavement to boondock drycamp. It's very well built with just about everything "done right" on it by Winnebago. Tons of interior and exterior storage - including 2 storage areas that go cross-ways underneath the coach floor for long items. In addition to those 2 exterior areas, it has 5 other exterior storage cabinets - all with steel walls, steel bottoms, steel tops, and all but one are carpeted on their bottoms for noise control.

We use our shower and everything else in it - including the oven. It's heater and air conditioner keep us comfortable in any conditions due to it's relatively small interior volumne as compared to longer Class C rigs. It has coach battery powered heated grey and black tanks for cold weather camping even without hookups. Right under the entrance step is plenty of room for the two large coach batteries, so no storage area has to be given up for them. Winnebago installed built-in curtains that effectively divide the interior into 4 separate areas. It can seat 7 with seat belts, and sleep 6 in two queens and one full. Flooring is a combination of vinyl and carpeting.

Winnebago has long since discontinued this floorplan on the full size Ford or Chevy cutaway van chassis. It seems like all the manufacturers are using the smaller and narrower cutaway van chassis now - which always appear top-heavy and unstable to me when viewed from the front or rear going down the road. Our rig is rock stable on curves and in cross-winds due to it's wide duallies in the rear.

I also have a 24' class C..that measures 25'. I searched very hard for this Coachmen Catalina Sport 240MB..great floorplan and has its own private rear bedroom,dinette and swivel chair. I have the dinette down permanently for my bed,(we use a fold down table between the dinette and chair)DH has the bedroom.It is a widebody model-has tons of storage and a hallway with private split bath..the shower is my "odds and ends" compartment as we use camground facilities. I have had many,many different kinds of campers but I really think this unit is just about PERFECT. Haven't traveled anywhere yet,but looking forward to it..lots of medical issues going on. But for now,local outings are cool with me! Janalee

We love our current RV, but we do have fond memories of our little 24 footer! Go anywhere and do anything! I bet as the house clears of children, we get back to something like that!

Just got back from a 6 day trip up to Big Lake and boy was the coach dirty. Unfortunately we came back on Monday and I can't stand to have the rig sit filthy and bug encrusted until next Saturday when the high school kids will once again be available so I washed it my self.... a serious pita. :E

Boy am I glad it is only 24'! Lots of work scrubbing the bugs off of the cabover, aka "Enormous, humongous bug catcher" but the extendable soft bristle brush and a step ladder make it doable. Got started early, about 0830, just finished at 1000 and it is already 91 degrees.

We took 10 weeks a few years ago in our 24 foot Class C in July and August to travel on about the same route as the Southern portion of the trip you're taking.

We're planning to take about 8 weeks starting this August to do the Northern portion of the U.S., including many of the states you're planning on seeing.

For visiting the Southern areas during this summer make sure your air conditioning is functioning perfectly. I also advise having a good dehumidifier in your RV. We didn't have a dehumidifier along when we toured the South and at times the air conditioner could not remove the moisture fast enough even though it was maintaining the inside temperatures low enough.

I'm glad that you like your 24 ft. Class C. We will be leaving Tucson next week for our summer trip. This year it the east cost and part central USA. We will be going to Mississippi first the to Fl. onto the East cost GA, NC, SC, DL, MR. NJ, PA, NY, all of New England states. Then to Ohio Ind. down to Iowa then head for home. By then I hope the temp is in the 80's or low 90s. Then I think it will be nap time. I'll let you know how thing went in our new REV 24tb.

We are missing that Arizona camping. As you have, we went up to the Rim to escape the valley heat and down to the Sonoran and Organ Pipe to escape "winter". Visits to the Grand Canyon and even up to Utah's spectacular sites.
So much open space to boondock and comparatively so few campers-- although more four wheelers and shooters. Colorado is full of campers and access to boondocking is much further from the city. Campgrounds are booked every weekend for months in advance. But it is beautiful and we don't blame our neighbors for enjoying camping as much as we do!

I never need much of an excuse to head to Canyon Point. Let me know when you're headed that way and we can all get together. Who knows, we might end up with quite a few Forum folks.

Ain't it the truth.

We came up through Globe to 188 out past Roosevelt Lake picking up 87 north of the lake. This takes you into Payson where a right puts you onto 260 all the way up to the top of the Rim (and on to Show Low if you are so inclined). All very good road, most of it 4 lane but this route includes some serious grades of 6 to 8% that often go for 5 to 10 miles at a stretch.

There are lots of dirt roads up there including some very nice dispersed boon docking sites but we stayed in the Canyon Point CG all three nights. The amenities are excellent and it is drop dead gorgeous. Sites are $23 - $11.50 with our Geezer card + and additional $5 for electric (30 amp).

It is full up every weekend and for most of the latter part of the week as well, reservations are a good idea but they have quite a few non reservable (non electric), sites, many with large pull throughs for the big boys.
