Own a 2006 Hurricane 31D which was acquired used in April 2011. Just the two of us traveling so the floor plan fits our desires and camping needs. The coach has never let us down after 40,000 miles and 299 nights in the coach so far.
Factory sealing around the exterior storage compartments, and more or less everywhere, was less than adequate and I had to fix a bit of delamination below the floor line. Wasn't difficult considering accessing the back side of the side wall is doable. As such check the coach you are looking at for the same. Delam below the floor, reduce your offer a few thousand. Above the floor walk away. Getting on the roof and checking the seals is a must. "The bigger the glob the better than job" is OK but is fixable. Dried, weathered, split and cracked sealant is either a walk away or deeper inspection looking for water leaks. Water stains in the corners where the roof meets the side walls is a walk away.
What you have to keep in mind is the Hurricane model line are budget built. Not a lot of bling and such. Basic coach. Great for weekend trips and a summer vacation but the interior items will wear quickly with long term use.
Chassis is pretty much the same as every other gas coach on the road so as long and the prior owner(s) stayed on top of scheduled maintenance you should be OK. Non-Thor (Four Winds) items, A/C, fridge, water heater and such, are also the same as every other coach but should still show signs of routine maintenance. Interior cabinetry is all pretty light weight wood or wood composite. Not the best but lighter weight means more weight reserve for you stuff.
My only wind noise issue was the front grill. Solved by adding bug screen in front of the grill. As a bonus if keeps the bugs out of the radiator. One window does rattle a bit but I just need to replace the weather felt. Round-To-It item.
In general it's a good basic coach but will require care and feeding. If the prior owner(s) parking in a storage lot and only took it out once a month or so to head out to the local state park then expect problems. Small problems left unrepaired will quickly destroy the coach or any coach for that matter.
We enjoy every minute in our coach. No regrets buying it which was also our first jump into the world of RV adventures. Just got back today from a 1450 miles 10 day three stop adventure with no problems or a list of stuff that needs attention. I would have no problems or concerns about backing out of the driveway tomorrow morning and heading out to Alaska in the coach. Would my next coach be a Hurricane? Nope, want a DP with a few more options that the Hurricane line does not offer.
With any posting concerning cerning the good, bad or ugly of a particular make or model just remember opinions are like backsides. Everyone has one and they all stick but your own.
