Opinions please. We are looking at the Axis 25.4 and the Axis 25.3. I would like to have opinions, pro and con, on the quality, livability, comfort, driveability, expected MPG with the Ford engine, service issues, etc. I know the manufactures don't do a lot of quality control these days and I don't want to jump into something that is going to be a lot of trouble in the future. All responses appreciated.

I just looked at one last week. Size was nice to travel in especially navigating smaller CG's like NP's or SP's. Not enough outside storage unless you get the model that has a huge pass tru in the rear under the bed. HP/wt ratio is high so no problems on steep roads out west. Not enough fresh water for drycamping for my requirements. Check the ccc on the unit you are interested in.

We love our Axis, perfect for two people in small CG's like NPS.
It gets 8 to 10 MPG towing a 4 door Jeep Wrangler once we get out of FL.
The house batteries are junk. The cranking battery is very difficult to get to.
Ours had 7 items that were taking care of, not bad when the industry average is 40 items I have read. One Thor authorized the Ford truck dealership to fix because the RV dealership couldn't find the problem.
I wouldn't call this an entry level just because you aren't paying 1/4 to 1/2 million dollars for the coach. Far better drive ability then a class C.

Check out the Thor forums. One member has a revised owners manual that is better then what comes from Thor.

I have a Thor ACE and really can not complain about it. I knew going in that is was not a top of the line unit. I liked that it did not have all the bells and whisles, less to go wrong. I would check out the Thor Forum www.thorforums.com

While it's not all that important for your question, it's worth noting that the Axis is a class A motorhome (built on an E-450 bare chassis), rather than a class C.

I would expect around maybe 8 mpg on the highway, depending on speed and conditions. The chassis and engine should be pretty reliable; the E series is relatively bulletproof and has been around plenty long to have the worst of the kinks worked out. The Ford V8 and V10 engines do rev high for truck engines by nature; it's not going to be sedate sounding on hills or when accelerating.

Beyond that, I'm afraid I can't be too much specific help.

As the other post stated, these are entry level RV's.

Thor is on my "do not buy" list. I will never own a Thor product.

We almost bought one at the Pomona show this year. It was a Vegas but the only difference we could find was colors. They are what is termed an entry level model and things are a little cheaper than other makes. The big stuff is the same for most entry and mid level models.

A guy who bought one early on wrote a very detailed PDI for either model. He found a lot needed checking back then. I think they are doing better after his critic showed up on the internet and in showrooms. Just google different wording a you'll find it.

The difference between the Ford based and the Chevy based is worth the extra money.
