bike rack on tire kit

Is there any kind of bike/cargo rack that fits on the Continental tire kit on the RT? I was thinking of carrying camping chairs there.

I have a hitch carrier. I was just curious if anyone uses a bike rack or some kind of rack on the tire and it seems so. Thanks. My concern was opening the right rear door with anything on the hitch.

I does appear that a 12" extension is necessary to protect the tire from being hit while towing. Any experience with this issue?

Many RT owners get a standard bike rack and put a hitch extension into the middle hitch receiver to hold the bike rack. This will put the bike rack out of the way of the Continental Spare Tire on the Roadtrek. Someone had found a bike rack with the extension already on it but I don't have a name or link for that.

You could also get a hitch carrier basket with an extension and attach it to the middle hitch the same way to carry anything.

The Roadtrek Cont. Spare is held in place with just a bar clip and it would not be a good idea to out very much weight on it as the support is made to drop flat down to start with.

What a friend of mine does is take this bike rack and flips it upside down for a tire that is not mounted on the bumper and secure it around the tire. Or just mount it to the side of the tire which is what I do.






Don't use straps that come with this bike rack they don't work.
These really secure a bike properly without damaging the bike.

I use just such a device to carry my chairs. Will post pics. It is a ladder mount bike rack and I use it upside down. Got it at CW .
