Brake question

Moved from another post, thought maybe no one saw it as there were no responses to this particular question.

I noticed today, when stopped at a light I could hear the electric motor for the brakes, I think that is what I'm hearing? Take your foot off the brake and it stops. I suspect the Hydraulic brakes are not working, just a guess on my part.

Any way I can check that further?

All of have been most helpful, not to mention relieving my worries about this part of the braking system. The address to read about the hydroboost was very informative, I enjoy reading it.

So many times I've needed answers to questions and no-where to turn but RV.NET, it has never failed me.

I believe the later model units did away with the power steering pump and only use the electric pump, which is why you hear it all the time, regardless of if the engine is running or not. My parents W22 runs the pump any time you press the brake, regardless of if the engine is running or not.

read this and you will under stand how it suppose to work. Your brakes must be working or you would not stop.

Gas motorhomes use what is called "hydroboost" for brake power assist.
This is a hydraulic system that operates off the power steering pump.

These systems have an auxiliary electric pump to provide boost if the engine is off, and that electric pump is what you are hearing.

It's totally normal.
